Kindergarten
The Brooklyn Waldorf School currently has three Kindergarten classes. Kindergartens are held Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 1:15 p.m.
The Kindergartens provide a warm and loving environment in which each child’s imaginative capacities are fostered where the teacher supports the development of creative, practical, and social skills. Although the Kindergarten programs are pre-academic, the children begin to receive the foundations for elementary-age learning through various activities: circle time and story telling provide a foundation for language arts; rhythmic games, songs, and guided movement help to develop a relationship to space, numbers, and mathematics; exposure to the natural world provides the foundation for the life sciences; creative play lays the foundation for self-motivated learning; artistic activity fosters creative problem solving and the development of integrated life skills.
Each year, our early childhood classes are grouped based upon the ages and developmental needs of the children who are in the school at the time. For instance we may find ourselves with two kindergartens composed of children from 4 – 6 years of age, and one Kindergarten with mostly 4 year olds. The opposite could happen the following year - all depending on the best placement for the children in our programs.
