Aftercare Program

Mondays thru Fridays: Aftercare 1-3 p.m.

Our Aftercare Program provides age-appropriate care for children from early childhood classes who need additional care beyond their morning in the classroom (from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.). The program consists of story and rest-time, followed by creative play and snack time. Children five and older have a shorter rest-time and will spend time with the lead teachers, playing and helping while the younger children have their nap. The younger and older children will re-join for creative play and snack. On Wednesdays, the group will go to the park. The simplicity of the program provides children with the breathing room they need after a full morning in school. Please provide a snack and a warm rest blanket free of imagery. See the grid to the right for teachers.

Extended Care Program
This Spring, 2010, we are offering the following programs for Extended Care (from 3:00-6:00 p.m.) on Tuesdays and Fridays only. If you are interested in Extended Care other days of the week, please email
afterschool@brooklynwaldorf.org

Tuesdays: Wildflowers- Afterschool Collaborative Play, 3-4:30 p.m.
Play and make stuff! Collaborate and build social skills. Sensory – tactile art making allows for unique individual attention, yet everyone gets to lead in the collaborative play. Michael Krauer is an expert at attending to the individual and facilitating the group.

Tuesdays: Crafts, 4:30-6 p.m.
We will create beautiful, simple arts and crafts projects inspired by nature, animals and the seasons. Using natural materials, we’ll playfully explore the creative process through nature crafts, play with paints, paper arts, simple bookmaking, paper mache, simple handwork, marbleizing, and nature prints, to name a few projects. Come prepared with an old t-shirt or smock that is OK to get messy!

Fridays: Cooking with Christi, 3-6 p.m.
Our Friday Extended Care program will be lead by Ms. Christi, and provides continuity for children in the Aftercare Program who need care beyond 3:00 p.m. This class will feature group cooking of a variety of healthy treats, and may also include outdoor play (weather and time permitting).
