How to Apply: Lower School

The Brooklyn Waldorf School looks forward to becoming acquainted with you and assisting you throughout the application process. Deciding on a school for your child is an important and difficult choice and we encourage you to ask questions, review literature, visit and meet with current students, parents, administrators, faculty members and Waldorf school alumni.

Just as it is important for you to familiarize yourself with Waldorf education and The Brooklyn Waldorf School, it is important for us to learn about your family and what you are looking for in a school.

Application information for grades 1-4 is below. Please be sure to print and fill out all of the underlined documents below as part of your application. To be considered, your application must contain all of these required documents, including financial and the grade-appropriate supplemental form(s) as noted. The lower school offers classes for 1st grade through 4th grade for fall 2009, and will offer 5th grade for fall 2010.

1. Complete the Application for Admission

2. Complete the Parent Statement

3. Complete the Lower School Supplement.

4. Complete the Transcript Records Request.

5. Download and read our 3 Tier Tuition Pamphlet explaining our unique 3 tier tuition model. After you read the pamphlet complete the 3-Tier Tuition Fee Form and include it with your application.
YOU MUST FILL OUT AND INCLUDE THE 3 TIER TUITION FEE FORM WITH YOUR APPLICATION. YOUR APPLICATION IS NOT COMPLETE IF WE DO NOT RECEIVE THIS FORM.

In order to create a foundation of understanding for dialogue with the School, families requesting either Tier 1 or Tier 2 are required to submit salary and asset information via SSS, a service provided by the National Association of Independent Schools to help schools make informed decisions regarding tuition fees. Families requesting either Tier 1 or Tier 2 must also submit complete income tax returns (including schedules) directly to the school for each of the past two years (2007 and 2008).

If requesting either Tier 1 or Tier 2, please complete and submit the SSS statement on-line at http://sss.nais.org. The Brooklyn Waldorf School code is 4339. SSS will subsequently provide a report to the School to help determine your appropriate tier.

6. A $65 non-refundable application fee

Send us your application with the above 6 completed items.
Once your application has been processed, your financial forms received (if applicable), and your chosen tuition tier approved, you will be contacted by the school if 1) there is a question regarding your application, and/or 2) the Administrative-Admissions committee is ready to schedule the final steps of the admission process, which include:

7. A day for your child to visit the classroom*
8. Interview with class teacher*

*This process may vary slightly based on the program and/or the lead teacher’s preference.

Rolling-admissions will occur if space is available.

We welcome you to contact us at any point in this process: admissions@brooklynwaldorf.org
or 718 783 3270.

Thank you for considering our school and we look forward to getting to know you better.
